About our team
As a team, we are committed to supporting friendly, open, and collaborative data science efforts. Our team is a collection of staff with data related expertise from a wide variety of areas who collaborate on cross-functional projects that build resources, supports and ongoing collaborations across many departments at Fred Hutch.
Jeff is Chief Data Officer, Vice President, and J Orin Edson Foundation Chair of Biostatistics at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. He leads the group in building a data environment that is both cutting edge and friendly, supportive, open, and collaborative.
Amy is the Deputy Chief Data Officer and Associate Vice President. She is co-leading the group to support democratization of data, expertise and technology across the spectrum of our merged institution. She has a background in translational data science, connecting the clinic to laboratory research, as well as open science efforts and data community building.
Partnerships and Strategy
Brian has more than two decades of experience in a variety of roles at the intersection of data science, biomedical research, and technology. He functions as a liaison between subject matter experts in order to develop and implement ethical data ecosystems that advance biomedical research and clinical care.
Abby has experience in program, product, and project management for bioinformatics software products and tools. She manages the Fred Hutch Data Initiative portfolio for translational data product and tooling development as the lead for our Data Product Management team.
Data Governance
Tyreesha has a background in privacy and compliance. In her role she supports data governance activities related to AI governance and research data stewardship. Prior to joining the team, she worked at Amazon and Delta Dental of Washington.
Gina has a background in healthcare analytics, with expertise in data quality management, regulatory compliance, and decision-making to improve health outcomes. As part of the data governance team, she focuses on ensuring the integrity, privacy, and accessibility of patient and research data.
Training and Community
Ted Laderas has worked with lots of different data types and knows his way around a workflow. He champions building learning communities of practice in science and research that are psychologically safe and inclusive. Ted leads our training and community efforts.
More about Ted
Chris Lo is a data science trainer who is passionate about helping biomedical and clinical researchers learn new tools to be effective at their research. He has a background in biostatistics and computational biology and has taught students of various backgrounds in biomedical data science.
Translational Data Science and Software
Monica has a background in biostatistics and epidemiology. She’s interested in helping translational staff implement reproducible workflows for statistical analysis, working on ways to pair technical shifts with cultural shifts to advance science, and building inclusive data science communities. She leads our Clinical Data Science efforts as part of our Translational Data Science and Software team.
Sita’s research background is in cancer biology, genetics, and genomics. Her experience spans a breadth of projects across multiple cancer types including leukemia, lung, breast, prostate, and gastric cancers. She is enthusiastic about creating efficient workflows and systems that bridge the data chasm, enabling fellow scientists to focus more on the research at hand, and less on the data gap. Sita works with our Translational Data Science and Software group.
Sean Kross is interested in building better tools and workflows for data scientists. His background is in computer science, cognitive science, and design. He leads our Human Computer Interaction (HCI) effort as part of our Translational Data Science and Software team.
Taylor’s background is in computational biophysics, clinical bioinformatics, and high-performance computing. His work is focused on generating open source bioinformatics software tools for the Fred Hutch research community while fostering a spirit of collaboration through data consultations and community building. He leads our Research Informatics efforts as part of our Translational Data Science and Software team.
Vivek has a background in biomedical informatics, statistics, and computer science. His work focuses on developing and productizing statistical and machine learning systems for electronic phenotyping and cohort identification across the Hutch. He is passionate about simplifying the medical discovery process from bench to bedside.
Scott has a background in ecology and evolutionary biology and software development. He’s interested in developing reliable software to solve user needs across Fred Hutch, and in helping those users build better software themselves.
Sonu is a UX researcher interested in building impactful systems that meet user needs. Her background is in health behavior change intervention design and health informatics.
Translational Applications & Engineering
Flavio is a data engineering leader with experience in health-tech, specializing in modernizing architectures and optimizing data platforms. He drives secure and scalable solutions, mentors teams, and ensures data systems support business growth and technical innovation. He manages our data engineering team doing our translational data product and infrastructure development.
Josh has a background in utilizing cloud technologies to deploy innovative, scalable, and secure data systems in both higher education and biotech environments. At Fred Hutch, this will continue to be his focus – optimizing our platform to enable the best environment for our science. He supports our cloud based translational data product and infrastructure tooling with our engineering team.
Sean has experience in project management spanning multiple industries and functions including Higher Education, Insurance, and Data Science, and has an MBA with a focus in Data Analytics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Sean works with our engineering team to implement translational data product and infrastructure development.
Anna has a background in technical product and program management. Prior to joining the team, she worked in the technology industry, including positions at Amazon and Tableau (Salesforce). She is our Product Manager with our engineering team doing our translational data product and infrastructure development.
Sindiya is part of our growing Engineering team, supporting the development of our Tools and Applications as well as providing data engineering expertise to a variety of translational data infrastructure projects and data product development efforts.
Chetan designs data pipelines for healthcare research while supporting tool development, translational data infrastructure, and data product efforts. Outside work, he explores human behavioral science, volleyball, and dance.
Administration and Operations
A northwest native, Sandy began working at Fred Hutch in 1984. In her tenure, Sandy has worked in the PHS Division office, the epidemiology program, PHS Labs, and since 2000 in the Biostatistics Program before joining the group.
Sana has been working at Fred Hutch since 2019. Prior to joining the group, she supported implementation of clinical trials in the Bezos Family Immunotherapy Clinic as a project manager in the Immunotherapy Integrated Research Center Project Management Office (IIRC PMO).
Maleah has a background in Grant Manager with a focus on federal and foundation grants. She ensures grant compliance and manages all financial aspects of grant funded programs.
Maria has a background in higher education administration and public health grant initiatives. She works with our Data Governance team to facilitate coordination across our governance collaborations across external and internal partners.
Shelly brings a strong background as a social worker, where she developed a passion for helping others and refining her communication and problem-solving skills. Now, she finds fulfillment in administrative operations, supporting leadership and creating efficient workflows. With a compassionate approach and attention to detail, Shelly is dedicated to making a positive impact.

Data Governance Specialist III - Consortium and Clinical Data Governance Program Manager
We are looking for a new team member to join us to manage our Consortium and Clinical Data Governance program. As part of the Cancer Consortium, and as a hybrid patient care and research organization, our Data Governance program manager helps us enable the connections between our cancer care data and our research teams by creating processes that enable ethical data stewardship and the protection of patient data and privacy. This is a critical role on our team and we’re looking for a great listener, communicator and consensus-builder who wants to approach translational data governance-as-an-enablement at Fred Hutch.
Data Scientist II
The Data Scientist II will develop and maintain computational tools to support bioinformatics research at Fred Hutch, focusing on genomic, imaging, and laboratory-generated data. Responsibilities include creating automated data processing pipelines, building reproducible bioinformatics workflows, and developing interactive data visualizations for research collaboration. Candidates should have expertise in Python or R, experience with sequencing data analysis, and familiarity with cloud computing, workflow languages, and version control tools like Git.
Analytics Engineer II
We’re looking for an Analytics Engineer to design, build, and maintain data models and pipelines that support AI-driven research and translational data science. The role involves ensuring data quality and governance, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and documenting and democratizing clinical and research datasets. This position emphasizes open science, reproducible research, and fostering an inclusive culture to advance cancer and infectious disease breakthroughs.
